Firefighters battle to save a Grade II listed Wadhurst property

Forty-five firefighters are currently tackling a blaze at a Grade II period property in Wadhurst.

The incident has been escalated to an eight appliance incident with both the water carrier from Uckfield attending, as well as the Incident Command Unit from Bexhill.

A neighbour contacted East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service at 12.08pm, after spotting smoke coming from the roof area of the two floor house in Wenbans Lane.

No-one is believed to have been inside the building when the fire started. Six fire engines were initially sent to the scene but it’s since been escalated and crews are currently tackling the fire in the roof space. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using two hose reels and one jet to fight the fire.

Crews from Forest Row and Battle have been called upon as well as Wadhurst, Mayfield, Burwash, Crowborough, Uckfield and Tunbdridge Wells.
