In light of the recent devastating Uckfield High Street fire, the Police and Fire Officers have been out in force visiting all the shops.
They were on hand at a Quality Street event, held in the High Street, on 25th September, alongside Sussex Police.
Crews spoke to the public about the importance of fire safety as well as answering any of their concerns and offering reassurance.
Matt Lloyd, Station Manager from Uckfield Community Fire Station, said: “The Police and Fire Service had a meeting after the recent fire in the high street and we decided the best approach in education and prevention would be a joint initiative.
“My team visited businesses in the High Street giving fire safety guidance whilst others spoke to local residents giving Home Fire Safety advice. The morning was a real success and another example of effective partnership working.”
The fire in the high street has had a massive effect on many people - especially local businesses. Therefore, it was imperative that local agencies worked together to assist in rebuilding confidence in the community as quickly as possible.
Pc Cathy Codling stated:
"Today has been a joint effort between Fire and local Police to reassure the public. We have been talking to shop keepers and members of the public about what is affecting them in the town area, especially after the Fire.
“The morning has been very proactive and we have been speaking to a large number of the public. “
