Crews prevent Britannia Enterprise Centre fire spreading

Hastings firefighters were called out early this morning to a fire at the Britannia Enterprise Centre.

Two crews were on hand at the incident in Waterworks Road at 6.36am after a concerned onlooker raised the alarm.

Upon arrival, smoke was issuing from the property and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were sent in and used two hose reels to tackle the blaze. The fire was quickly put out, leaving severe fire and smoke damage.

Watch Commander George Wippich said: “The rapid action taken by the caller and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service’s prompt response ensured that further damage to the adjoining buildings was prevented.”

No-one was injured and the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
