Firefighters attend A27 collision

Brighton firefighters were called out to a serious collision along the A27 last night (25th November).

Crews from Lewes and Preston Circus were called to the incident at 7.22pm, which involved one vehicle with two persons trapped inside.

A blue Vauxhall Zafira heading eastbound collided with a Highways Agency message board and a stationary lorry which was parked off the carriageway.

Firefighters had to cut one elderly woman free from the wreckage by removing the side and roof of the car. She suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and she was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, where she was treated.

The 48-year-old driver and another passenger in the Vauxhall suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital, as a precautionary measure.

A large pavement area and one lane was closed and sectioned off to enable crews to work at the scene. They left the incident at 8.45pm.
