Awards ceremony for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has honoured the dedication and achievements of its uniformed and support staff at its Annual Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony took place at the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters in Eastbourne last Friday (July 19th 2013).

Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive Des Prichard said on the night:

“These staff have all, through their various endeavours, contributed significantly to their local communities. In a variety of ways they have helped to save lives, make their communities safer and ensure that East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is such a high performing and well respected organisation.”

He also thanked the families of those being given awards for their support and understanding.

The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mr Peter Field, presented, on behalf of the Queen, the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to operational staff. The recipients were both full-time and retained firefighters who have served for twenty years and whose character and conduct have been exceptional.  Mr Field said “I am always delighted to be able to join East Sussex Fire Authority and Fire and Rescue Service staff, family and friends. The wonderful work that you all do here never ceases to amaze me.”

The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service Medals were presented by the Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive, Des Prichard. This medal was introduced in May 2001 and is presented for loyal and good service to support staff who have completed twenty years’ service and uniformed staff who have completed thirty years.

He also presented the Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive’s Commendation, which is for significant contribution to the survival and/or rescue of people in extreme danger or at risk of loss of life.

The East Sussex Fire Authority Excellence Award was presented by Fire Authority Chairman Phil Howson. This recognises humanitarian, charitable or extra curricular service of exceptional nature, which is innovative and promotes public service.

He said: “I am very proud to be associated with the men and women of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and I know in saying this all members on the Fire Authority would echo this sentiment. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate achievement and success within this wonderful organisation.”
