Fire at a property in Withdean, Brighton

On 17thJuly at 6.07pm, crews from Preston Circus and Hove responded to a house fire at a property in Hillbrow Road, Withdean, Brighton. The building was empty at the time of the fire.

On arrival, crews found smoke issuing and requested a further fire engine. The detached property consisted of two floors. The fire was in the downstairs area and crews initially used four breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet.

Firefighters reported signs of roof collapse and using ladders, used one main jet and two hose reel jets to tackle the fire from height. Transco and UK Power Network were also requested to attend the scene as the electrical intake had been affected by fire.

Four fire engines attended the scene and a total of one main jet, two hose reels and four breathing apparatus were used to bring the fire under control. The stop message was received at 7.25pm, however crews remained at the scene until later that evening damping down.

A fire investigation is now underway.
