Gorse fire tackled overnight in Newhaven

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have tackled a gorse fire overnight in Newhaven.

Crews were called out to reports of a fire at Castle Hill Fort Road at 23.02 on the 10th of August 2013.

Over 50 999 calls were received. 

Around 25 firefighters and two officers attended the scene, where an area of gorse measuring approximately 200m by 100m was alight.

3 main jets were used along with foam. 

The stop message was received at 02.14. As of 07.30, crews are at the scene damping down.

  2. My husband and I live on Newhaven Heights and these fires are causing a lot of distress amongst the residents. If only these people would realise that we would not only lose our homes, but some may also lose their lives with their acts of stupidity.
