Forty firefighters were called to tackle a fire in a top floor flat of a three-storey building in St Leonards-on-Sea last night (5th August).
An emergency call was made to East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service at 10.08pm informing the Mobilising and Communications Centre of smoke issuing from the building.
Eight appliances attended the incident in Pembroke Court, Woodland Vale Road, which were mobilised from The Ridge, Bohemia Road, Battle, Broad Oak, Bexhill and Rye, along with the Aerial Ladder Platform.
The Fire Victim Support Unit from Haywards Heath attended to offer support to those who were left to find alternative accommodation for the night. Ten people were rehoused for the night and six of those slept in the Town Hall.
Seventeen firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, tackled the blaze with firefighting foam and three hose reel jets. Everyone safely evacuated the building.
A full fire investigation is now underway.
