Contingency crews will be ready to respond to emergencies across East Sussex and Brighton and Hove when members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) take industrial action.
The FBU has announced a strike will be held for five hours, between 6.30pm and 11.30pm on Saturday 19 October. It is the second period of industrial action in the national dispute over pensions.
Chairman of East Sussex Fire Authority, Cllr. Phil Howson, said: “East Sussex Fire Authority is fully aware of the contingency plans developed on our behalf by Officers and supports those employees of East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service in providing an appropriate level of cover throughout the duration of the strike action.”
The need for contingency crews comes from our legal obligation to provide cover during FBU strikes. This is a dispute which only the FBU and Government have the power to resolve and we would repeat our hopes that this is resolved quickly.
