Stay safe at Lewes Bonfire 2013

East Sussex Fire and Rescue is asking people attending the Lewes Bonfire celebrations tonight to stay safe and follow instructions from the organisers.

If you are going along, please do not take your own fireworks. The bonfire societies have more than enough to put on a show. Remember that children should always be supervised with sparklers and they should not be given to children under five.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the annual event and, with much of the town centre closed to traffic from late afternoon, roads and other transport links will be extremely busy.

Information about the event, including road closures and timings, is available at www.lewes.gov.uk. You can also follow Sussex Police on Twitter throughout the night @sussex_police#lewesbonfire

For the first time ever, people will be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the close partnership work that goes into making this event safe and enjoyable for residents and visitors.

Video will be streamed live via the Sussex Police website between 6pm and 8pm with interviews from people involved in the planning and multi-agency operation and a live web chat allowing viewers to ask questions about the night.
