Five people have been rescued by firefighters during a flat fire on Saturday night (11 January 2014).
Crews from Bohemia Road and The Ridge in Hastings, and from Bexhill were called out to an address on Eversfield Place in St Leonards at 23.15.
Twenty firefighters were at the scene at the height of the incident. Police and ambulance also attended.
A man was rescued from the third floor of the property by crews using breathing apparatus. He was then treated for smoke inhalation by the ambulance service using oxygen.
A man and a woman were rescued from the first floor from a balcony and a man and a woman were rescued from a window on the second floor using the Aerial Ladder Platform.
Incident Commander George Wippich said: “Crews worked very hard and very quickly in arduous conditions to reach those inside the building.”
Six breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were used as well as one in seven firefighting foam.
