Take extra care in high winds

The high winds currently sweeping through East Sussex and Brighton and Hove are sparking concerns for public safety.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is calling on people to take extra care.

There is an amber warning from the Met Office, with predictions that gusts could reach around 70 mph over coasts, and 50-60 mph inland, whilst rain will be heavy at times.

The public should be prepared for the risk of disruption to transport and power due to fallen trees.  Drivers should slow down and allow more time for their journey.

Additionally, large waves bring the risk of flooding in some coastal areas. We would ask people to stay away from beaches until the weather has passed and keep an eye on flood warnings from the Environment Agency.
