East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) has returned to normal cover following today’s two hour lunchtime strike by the Fire Brigades Union.
FBU members are taking industrial action every day until 16 August 2014 from noon until 2pm and 10.59pm until 11.59pm as part of the on-going dispute with the Government over pensions. Cover is reduced during these strike periods with contingency crews on duty, prioritising 999 calls where lives may be at risk.
Between noon and 2pm today (13 August) crews attended a dangerous structure in Brighton and a kitchen fire in premises in Portslade.
Information about further strikes can be found here http://www.esfrs.org/about_us/industrialaction.shtml, along with a number of safety messages and checklists, including how to cook safely and dealing with kitchen fires, that can help keep our communities vigilant, alert and safe.
