East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is currently at the scene of an on-going incident involving a gas leak at a BP garage along the Lewes Road, in Brighton.
Initially, one crew were mobilised at 8.04am this morning (14th November), along with a Technical Rescue Unit from Lewes, which has a gas detection facility on it.
A further second breathing apparatus crew were mobilised to the scene and will be working alongside specialist contractors.
An underground tank is believed to be leaking liquefied petroleum gas and a cordon has been set-up around the main incident site.
Sussex Police are currently at the scene and although roads currently remain open motorists are urged to stay away from the area, due to anticipated traffic congestion.
Fire crews are constantly monitoring the gas content in the air and have identified the location of the leak and are working with specialist contractors to make the area safe.
