Fire Service project receives top national awards

East Sussex Fire Authority has been recognised for its dedication to improving people’s lives through its partnership with 3VA at the 6th Annual Improvement & Efficiency Awards 2015 hosted by the Improvement & Efficiency Social Enterprise (iESE).

This is a not for profit company made up of members and directors in local authorities across the UK. These prestigious awards are for public sector bodies, celebrating Public Sector Excellence, and can include work in partnership with other sectors such as the voluntary sector.

The Service is recognised for its work with 3VA, which provides practical support to charities and community groups, to help reach vulnerable people across the service area.
The ceremony took place on Tuesday 4th March 2015 at Church House, Westminster.
East Sussex Fire Authority was shortlisted for two Awards and on the evening were awarded the Silver Award for Transforming Local Services 2015 and the Gold Award for Fire & Rescue Project of the Year 2015.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Gary Walsh, said:

“This partnership has been recognised by the Department of Health for its innovation and cross cutting nature of the delivery of Health and Wellbeing visits and ability to reach vulnerable people to advise and change their health outcomes by the use of Fire Service Community Volunteers.

“We are delighted that the volunteers have received the recognition that they deserve. This is testament to the contribution and hard work that they have all made to the Community Volunteer Scheme and due to its success it is no longer a project but a fully-fledged scheme.

“This year's submissions saw a huge variety of projects, all of which are testament to the fantastic achievements that are being made by the Public Sector.

“We are extremely proud of what East Sussex has achieved, despite the continued economic pressures that the public sector are facing.”

Chief Executive Officer of 3VA, Adam Chugg, said:

“We are extremely pleased with this achievement and this national recognition of the partnership between ESFRS and 3VA.”

The Chairman of East Sussex Fire Authority, Councillor Phill Howson, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Gary Walsh and CEO of 3VA, Adam Chugg, all attended the event to receive the awards.
